Thoughts on local shows.

Worse cramp of my life :(

Some thoughts while watching TV:

Channel 8, 9pm show - Just in Singapore
This is definitely much better than the usual channel 8 drama. For once, they are not actively "promoting" government policies. For once, their storyline is actually quite "fresh". I'm using "fresh" very loosely. Because the "fresh" means using a SUPER old storyline that no one has been using since eons ago.

I like this show in general.

BUT! I can't help but feel that it's a little unfair? The way the show goes, it's as if all people who lives in 1-room or (horrors of horrors) HDB flats, only have 1 thing on their mind and that is MONEY. And that is definitely not true. The show seems to be sending out a message that poor people are either a) out to cheat people's money, b) trying to find a 金龟婿 (rich husband) regardless of their feelings c) always fighting with each other or d) cheapos.

What happened to all the good stuff?

The show is a little too 夸张. But in general, it's a good show(: Especially since Fiona Xie is in it! Opps.

Singaporeans sick of "talent shows"?
Is it me or is it me? Was watching the new show - "唯我独尊" on Channel U and I realised that out of the 16 finalists, half of them are not Singaporeans! And! There seem to be more and more foreigners going for the audition (or maybe the directors edited it to be this way?).

Are Singaporean tired of all these get-famous-quick/shortcut-to-fame shows? Has Singapore run dry of talents/pretty faces? OR have they realised that you don't really get famous or get anywhere at all with these shows?

Anyways, I find that this show totally lacks creativity. My brother calls it a "cheapo beauty show". Basically, they pick 8 guys and 8 girls. Then each week, the finalists will go through a theme ( 4 for the guys and 4 for the girls). If you can look good and work that theme, you win and get additional points on your scorecard which will be used during the finale. During the finale, a guy and a girl will be crowned the champion and out of the 2 of them, one will be the OVERALL winner.

Hello? Boring? Besides, this is such a no-brain competition so why do they need the contestants to have some form of talent? Trying to make it "appear" more "intellectual"? And the way they pick the male contestants are like ERMMMMMM. Every single guy that went on stage will have to REMOVE their clothes and show off their abs. HELLO?? Seriously!

I think it's just Mediacorp's way of milking money from the audience or in this case, the contestant's friends and family. Because who still vote for these kind of shows?

No one that I am rooting for because I feel no one looks really outstanding? *shrugs*

Here are the themes:

Seriously, I think it's not that hard. Oh wells. Next week is "Hunk" which means there will be more abs showing (save me!) and lots of sleeveless shirts. Shave please! SHAVE! I saw the commercial just now and I almost fainted. This guy raised his hand and WOAH! Amazon forest!! :X Opps. Bitchy~

Miss Singapore Universe 2008 axed?
Have anyone noticed that MSU 2008 was not broadcast on TV? Have you read the article in TNP sometime back? Apparently viewership was low and no sponsors want to fork out the money to put the pageant on TV.

The finals is in April 2008. We'll see. But they didn't broadcast on TV for applicants anymore!

I heard that someone actually suggested to stop the whole pageant since we never win anyway. Wait. We never get anyway close to getting on stage.

Why are pageants more successful in Western countries and not in Singapore? Is it because Singaporeans just can't be bothered with such things? Singaporeans don't support our own Miss Singapore? Or are our girls really that bad? Or maybe our pageants are not that interesting? Too conservative?

Okay, I better head off to bed(: Morning class tomorrow which means I have to wake up at 6am. Eeps!
