My weak attempt to answer, "Why blogs?"

Been a topsy-turvy kind of day. Right after I posted the previous post, my day mood started going downhill. I skipped dinner and had some Ritz biscuits. Self-esteem is below low today. Bestie called and I didn't pick up cause I don't want to bawl to her over the phone (again).

When I'm in this mood, the slightest hint of care/concern can make me cry. Which is a good thing because after that, I'll feel better. Hey! I can cry again! That's good news right?! NOT!

Anyways, was bathing and I kept thinking about the question that was asked during my presentation on Twitter, "What if someone post something bad about your products on Twitter? Isn't it be better to not be on Twitter at all then?"

Okay, I am not very familiar with Twitter. But I think this question is not just applicable to Twitter. It's applicable to blogs and well, any forms of social media. So here I go, trying to answer it with my very shallow understanding of social media or marketing or common sense.

Whether you are on Twitter, blogs or not, if that person wants to say something bad about your product, they will say it. They will still post it.

I don't know about Twitter but by having a blog, it kind of "directs" all those negative comments to one place. I mean, hello? Human nature? If you have something bad to say about a person/company, won't you want to hit where it hurts the most/where the most damage will be done? So, where else better (better else) to do it than on the company's "official" blog? Right? Right?

And when the company receives such negative comments on/in their blog, they will then have a chance to respond to the comments!

If the company handles the criticisms well, they will a) impress their supporter even more, b) have those critics convinced and c) wow new customers! Because with those criticisms on the blogs, it kind of provides a balance view of the company, no?

It's better than just having a website that makes the company sounds like little Miss Perfect!

It's part of the whole 2-way communication and humanizing a company thing right?

Of course, just having a blog by itself is not enough. But, you know, it has some added advantage?

And unless the company comes with die-hard fanatics, like Apple, than maybe it can live without a blog since the fanatics will be all ready to jump its defend. (Erm..Apple still don't have a blog right? I remember reading it somewhere when I was not paying attention in class :X)

Okay, I don't have the energy to carry on typing. Tired and I better go to sleep before this mood swings drives me conkie.

Naked Conversation is turning out to be a rather pleasant (not nice or good) read.
