I have no idea. Social media or social networking sites just don’t stick, do they? Or maybe it’s my friends.
Took them eons to signed on to Friendster and when they did, I was already at MySpace. MySpace never caught on with them. Attempted to use Facebook long before the fever hit our shores. Gave up and deleted the account because I only have one friend – Scott from US. Pointless. Then the whole fever reached Singapore and everyone started joining and I re-joined. Hurray! Happily ever after? Nopes. People don’t like Facebook either. Started abandoning their accounts and all.
Then there’s Twitter. Ha. Ha. Let’s not talk about it. F.A.I.L.U.R.E. Many people are not convinced about Twitter and its uses. Frankly, I find it kind of pointless as well. But after awhile, you realized Twitter is just like this big chatroom. Not only can you “check” up on what your friends are doing, you can snoop around and see what they are talking about with other people. Thumbs up! Especially since I can be such a gossip girl. BEWARE *roars*
Besides, it's a good place for me to post those funny random thoughts I am oh-so-prone to having. Especially on school days(:
But ah...It only works when you have a lot of friends to check up on. And my friends are totally against/un-warmed to the idea of Twitter! I am basically following myself and @uniquefrequency. The few of my friends who are on Twitter kind of just signed up and forgot (SUAF)about it. Opps.
Social networks don’t sell in my social circle. Can I generalize it to NTU as well? Twitter is only an example. Most people don’t have Facebook too! OR they just SUAF. Somehow, I feel that while SMU and NUS people are getting more savvy or using some form of social media, NTU people are still stuck in ancient times. It’s a miracle that we don’t see pigeons flying around the school delivering letters. Is it because we are at the other end of world so it will then take a longer time for these new “fabs” to reach us?
Or is it like what Juan said that NTU people just don't bring laptops around and so we don't use this kind of stuff that requires access to a computer? Then again, is that a valid excuse/reason? Hmm.
Bottomline: The use of social networks is largely dependent on the rate of adoption of your social circle.
Oh wells. You know, social networks can be such a chore if you actually want to get something out of it (other than staying in touch with friends). You have to look and search profiles to look for people that you find interesting or if you are really plastic and fake, look for people that you find gorgeous. Gosh. I know I can use TweetScan to search for people to follow, but I am just so lazy to do that. Look at all those Tweets and yada yada yada *yawns*
But I think I will stay on to Twitter. Because I can blog in terms of Tweets on days when I just don't feel like talking. Basically I just put all my Tweets (meepok strands) for the day in the post and *tada* done(a bowl of meepok)! Whees~ Ok, we’ll see how.
USE TWITTER! JOIN JOIN JOIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Follow me !(:
